I miss sledding.
I miss being so little and praying at night during Christmas break that it would snow a billion inches.
Do you remember....?
*the hours it took finding all the things needed for sledding on a cold day
*wearing so many pairs of socks and tieing your boots so tight that you lost circulation
*the mismatched gloves
*the long underwear that was a necessity even though it was from years before and too small
*the eventual borrowing of your dads long underwear resulting in the funniest pictures ever
*the hard work to get everything on
*sweating profusely because you got ready an hour before your friends were leaving to sled
*going outside in the cold being completely bundled and warm
*thinking that the hill you were sledding on was the biggest one in the world
*piling 5 people on a 2 person sled
*laughing so hard you couldnt walk back up the hill
*grabbing the feet of friends who were a step ahead of you on their way back up
*arguing about whose turn it was to carry the sled back up
*getting to the top and questioning taking another trip down, just for the terrible climb back up
*forgetting to securily tuck the back of your shirt in, and snow creeping up your back
*the snow eventually soaking through your 18 layers of clothing
*realizing it was time to go home and drink hot cocoa with a bazillion marshmallows
*getting home and hearing your mom yell to get back outside to take the wet clothes off
*warming up under a blanket with new clean, warm pjs on next to the fire your dad built
Remember how fun it was.
We are sitting here remembering and promising that when we have children and they are making memories of their own on snowy days that we will put on our warm clothes and join them. We wont be too busy, we wont be too tired or cold, but we will join them and make sure that someday they too can look back on wonderful, snowy winter days.
